Production: Filter time!!

 Welcome!

Choosing an editing style for the project was one of the most important steps in bringing the story to life. I wanted to create a specific mood that would enhance the emotions of each scene, so I spent a lot of time experimenting with different filters and effects. Initially, I tried using bright, high-contrast filters to make everything pop, but it didn’t fit the tone I was aiming for. It made the film feel too loud and overwhelming.

After discussing it with the group, I decided to take a more subtle approach. I experimented with softer filters that muted the colors slightly. This gave the scenes a more romantic, dream-like quality, which was perfect for the narrative. The group and I agreed that this style complemented the story's reflective and emotional elements. Another aspect I focused on was color grading. I chose warm tones for the happy moments, adding soft golden hues to emphasize the warmth of those memories. For the more intense or emotional scenes, I leaned into cooler tones, with blues and grays to evoke a sense of sadness or longing. This contrast in color helped guide the audience’s emotions as the story unfolded.

I also played with saturation levels, adjusting them to match the mood of each sequence. In moments of high tension or emotional conflict, I slightly desaturated the footage, giving it a more subdued and serious feel. On the other hand, the lighter scenes had richer, more vibrant colors to highlight the sense of joy or hope.

Finding the right transitions between scenes was another part of the process. I tried out various cuts and dissolves before settling on smooth, gradual transitions for the more emotional sequences. It gave the film a seamless flow, allowing the story to progress without feeling too jarring. I wanted the transitions to feel natural, almost like the audience was being gently pulled from one moment to the next. I also experimented with overlays and lens flares to add visual interest, but I kept them minimal to avoid distracting from the story. The editing process became about finding a balance—enhancing the film’s visuals without overshadowing the narrative. By the end, the group and I were satisfied with the style we had crafted. It felt cohesive and true to the heart of the story.

Choosing the right editing style was a journey of trial and error, but in the end, it was worth the effort. Each decision helped shape the final product into something that captured the emotions I wanted to convey.

That's all.
