Genre Research: Drama.

Hello!

Here is the research I found on the drama genre.

CAMS

Some Cams that are commonly used in the drama genre are close-ups, over-the-shoulder, extreme close-up shots, and high angles. Close-ups are used to illuminate a subject and show emotion in the characters' faces. Over-the-shoulder shots have a similar effect as they show how the characters feel. Extreme close-up shots add suspense to a film, making it "dramatic." Lastly, high angles can make the characters look minuscule, highlighting the conflicts they encounter.

CLAMPS

Some clamps that are commonly used in the drama genre are heavy and dramatic makeup. This style of makeup is often used in this genre, as it elucidates the drama portrayed. The settings typically used in this genre are generally bold and easy to see. However, the lighting is usually dark with some highlights on specific subjects to create focus on certain people or things.

EDITING

Some editing that is commonly used in the drama genre are fade-in and fade-out transitions. These transitions are frequently used to create a feeling of conflict and suspense by elongating the scenes. Jump cuts also create the same effect by doing the opposite, quickly ending previous scenes and beginning new scenes to create a sense of unfinished business.

SOUND

Some sounds that are commonly used in the drama genre are dialogue, and diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. The dialogue of these films typically creates a conflictual tone. This is because the lines may display an argument between two characters. Furthermore, diegetic sounds like gasps and non-diegetic sound effects helps to create and enhance a dramatic mood.

Some examples films of the drama genre are "Titanic," "Dear Evan Hansen," and "Wonder."

Elements of this genre that I like and would use in my film, are the close-ups and extreme close-ups. These shots help create suspense and drama always having the audience at the edge of their seat! However, elements I do not like would not use would be the dramatic makeup because it would be difficult for me to master.
